Almansa Wine

The Almansa denomination of origin, in the southeast of the Community of Castilla La Mancha, has cultivated areas in the municipalities of Ayora, Almansa and Chinchilla in the province of Albacete. The territory comprises 10,000 hectares of vineyards that stretch over loamy soils, over 70 meters high. The climate is harsh, semiarid, dry and continental, with cold winters and very hot summers.

The cultivars in Almansa DO are devoted in a rate of 75%, to the red varieties Monastrell and Garnacha Tintorera, which allows wine-producers to develop tough, dry, soft wines that are ruby-red in color and with high alcohol content and plenty of extract. For white wines, the variety grown is Merseguera.

The wines of the Almansa DO undergo aging, which should last a minimum of 2 years, of which at least 1 year is spent in oak casks. The wines of this denomination can be Rosé, Claret, Red and Garnacha Tintorera Red.
